VA Claim Delays Hit 350 Days Nationwide
As our nation honored our war dead on Memorial Day, MSNBC reported on the challenges nearly 900,000 Veterans face obtaining disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Journalist Ned Resnikoff at MSNBC interviewed Bergmann & Moore’s Paul Sullivan, who provided the reporter with the latest VA statistics about the number of Veterans waiting for VA benefits. The headline says it all: “Disabled Veterans Struggle with Broken Claims System.”
The average number of days VA takes to process a claims passed 350 days
Also this Memorial Day weekend, VA hit another troubling milestone: The average number of days VA takes to process a claims passed 350 days on Monday, May 27, 2013. VA’s prior record was 345 days.
The troubled agency is now focused on processing new claims that have languished at VA for two years or longer without a decision. As Bergmann & Moore pointed out in our “Statement for the Record” for a Congressional hearing last week, VA continues ignoring Veterans’ appealed claims gathering dust at VA regional offices, often for many years and even decades.
